breeder pricing

so how does one know if a snake is overpriced or not? I went to a herp show back in 91 I think it was and recall little of it as I was...lets say....letting my mind absorb something other than knowledge.

so I was doing some checking on a few web site for rainbow boas and it just seemed a little steep. are they worth several hundred dollars for one snake? or is it that BP's just dont cost as much as other snakes?

From what i've seen and learned from when I purchased my BP, they are one of the more affordable snakes (at least the Norms) just because of their popularity. They are great beginner snakes, and not a whole lot of people would spend $1000 + on an introduction to a hobby, so it works out perfectly for everyone.

Have you purchased your snake yet? You'll be wanting one of the expensive beauties in no time i'm sure :)

Common prices for normal BRBs range from $80-$135 depending on quality...if you were seeing several hundred dollar prices then you were either looking at morphs or adults.

Supply and demand is what causes the prices of just about everything in this world. There are alot more ball pythons being produced/imported than rainbow boas.....

oh I'd love to have lots and lots, but am fighting with my SO over getting 2 rainbow boas right now. he's not being reasonable and I am cranky. I *hope* he changes his mind and allows me to get 2 more

I know BP morphs are spendy, but what I was looking for was baby rainbow boas, and I was seeing a low of about $150 and high of about $450 per baby. just wondering why the boas seem to be more spendy than the BP's

I think Daniel hit the nail on the head with that one.

I also was wondering the same thing as I too want to get some BRB's. Also having read that BRB's produce clutches of up to 30 eggs and BP's up to 10 or something it would seem that more BRB's could be produced thereby making their price go down lower than a BP's.

But I'm pretty sure its because there is alot more breeders breeding BP's so the competition is more fierce causing the price of the normal BP to be lower than the price of a BRB

The highest price I have ever seen on a normal BRB is around $225. Where were you seeing $250+ babies at? What is the price range you are looking for and I can try to find some for you?

Boas don't lay eggs.....and BRBs usually have just a little more offspring than ball pythons.

As Daniel said. Look at normal boas, everywhere you look says the possibility of 60 babies, but ask breeders what their average per litter is an 60 is pretty far fetched

my bad sorry.. I didn't mean it that way just meant how many babies are born but I still read that it is up to 35 offspring can be given birth too but the norm is in between 12 and 25
