Time for a refresh on how to use the site
I know this has probably been a topic thats boring to everyone, but I am a fairly new member, and I wanted to seek out some help on a few specific issues on how to more effectively use this site. I'm going to list a few specific questions, but any other helpful hints would be wonderful:

    1) What is the best way to track the posts you have started and/or participated in?

    2) How do you quote a portion of a post?

Simple, I know, but i'm just starting to participate in forum sites and this stuff has been quite difficult for me to find information on. I soon hope to be an intelligent member of your conversations :)

One option is to subscribe to the post. Or you can do what i do, go to seach, then click on "advanced search". That will open a new screen. At the top there will be a part that says, search by user name and have a box for you to type in. Put your username there, and it will show you a list off all threads you've posted in. If there are new posts you havent read, the title will be in bold. To quote a portion of a post, you just click quote like normal, then when the new window opens you delete the portion of the text you dont wish to quote, but be sure not to mess with the code tags. Hope that helps.

if you want to quote a portion of someone's post simply hit the quote button in the bottom right corner of their post... and this will open a window with their quote already in the reply window. ;)

the best way to track your posts is to subscribe to them. when you have finished writing out your post... simply scroll down before hitting "submit reply" and you'll see a drop down menu offering you to subscribe if you choose :) you can also go into your USERCP at the top left of your screen and change your options to always subscribe to every thread you participate in.

you will receive an email each time a new post is made in a thread you are subscribed to, but you will only receive one email per thread until you visit and read the thread... so you won't get 30 emails for one thread when you haven't checked the site in a few days. ;)

hope that helps and feel free to ask more questions if needed. :sunny:

    Welcome to BP.net! :handshake:

Try this link here for lots of Q&A about the site...including #20 which talks about the "subscribing to threads" that Piranha and Aleesha mentioned.

    http://www.ball-pythons.net/forums/s...ad.php?t=31101

Another quick way to find the threads you've posted (or any particular member for that matter) is to click on your own user name...that will take you to your Public Profile page. And from there, you'll see a link that says "See all posts made by this user" and another that says "See all threads started by this user."

Hope that helps some! There are other helpful threads "stickied" at the top of this Site Info forum that will help with things like posting pictures and explaining the rep system.

oh and if you forget to subscribe to a thread you want to watch you can always go to the top of your screen (when you are inside the thread) and hit the "thread tools" it's a drop down menu and you'll see the option to subscribe. click on it and another page will open and you'll have to click on it again to say "yup i really do want to subscribe" LOL and then... you're all set!
