cresteds are bred pretty much year round, depending on where you look. some people give their breeders a rest in the winter and start breeding again in the early spring, but they are not seasonal breeders if their temps are kept steady so many people take advantage of this and breed whenever their pairs are ready.

an experienced breeder can usually tell the sex of a juvie crested by the time it is 3-4 months old by using a jewelers' loupe to look for preanal pores. if you buy from someone who is reputable and good at sexing cresteds this way you can be pretty much guaranteed to get females.

Well my male is of age and size to breed but it's just so hard to pay the price for the female. But i guess it's worth it in the long run. How often do you handle yours i only handle about once or twice a week.

juvies get handled at feeding and cage cleaning time, so they get some kind of interaction several times per week but not really extended handling sessions. enough for me to check them over and get them on their way to being calmer adults. my adults get handled less--part of that is because they are kept in larger cages where they aren't always out and about when i'm feeding so i don't dig them out if they are hiding.
