    Thermostat
Can you please explain the usage of a thermostat for my snake.

I dont really know what everyone means by it, i know a thermostat cotrols temps, but how can you hook one uo to control the cage.

And if i get this will i need my heat lamps anymore or is the thermostat good.

Let me know best you can like how the process of setting it up works, how big it is, and how expensive it is.

Also where can i get one?

sorry for the n00b question, but im looking to change my snakes source of heat.

Is the thermostat a heating source in itself or is it just used to control heat. Im confused on how to use it would i have to plug it into my electic heater to control that temp or does the thermostat produce it's own heat, blah help me.

A thermostat is used to control heating devices. It works by detecting the temperature and when it reaches a certain height it turns off the heating device till the temp drops back down. I'm not currently using one but I know there is a good write up if you look in the husbandry stickies.

Thats what i dont get, what heating devices does it control like to help maintain my snakes tank?

I use two heat lamps and an electric heater. Does the thermostat play into those or what?

The thermometer controls your flex watt or UTH. You should provide belly heat for your snake and the the 2 above mentioned items are used to do that.

So i should get one of those (which are heating pads correct?)

And than the thermostat controls them?

A theremo*meter* measures the temps. A thermo*stat* controls the temps.

What i've done is take my thermostat probe (senses the heat) and placed it on the flexwatt. My flexwatt is plugged into the thermostat unit. Based on what the thermostat probe reads, the thermostat itself will adjust the power to warm up or cool down what ever you're trying to control.

As the unit senses temps cooling down, it raises power output, or if it's getting too hot, it lowers power output.

    Does this make sense?

yea, so i get the flex and the thermostat plugs into that and i can control the temp from there?

So all i need is flex and a thermostat and im set?
