I would like to reiterate what is in bold. This is a max recommendation, depending on the element it may be a smaller area covered. For example I am using 3" flexwatt in my rack with adult BP's. The hot side is still maintained where it should be the cool side as well. The whole room is temp controlled and so the heating element even though only 3" is more than able to maintain proper temps.
-I know Aleesha more than likely already understands what I'm saying, I'm just over-analyzing for those who may need it. :P

FWIW, I have two UTH's on my 20-gallon long, which together cover most of the bottom of the tank. Each is on its own t-stat. The warm side--92--is controlled by a proportional, the cool side--82--is an on/off t-stat. Without both, it gets too cold, even with an ambient room temperature of 75. Took awhile to get it figured out, but that's what works for me.

Another great tip and explanation...the ambient room temp definitely plays a major role in getting enclosure temps right.

Yea I had to run multipule UTH's too, my room stays in the 69-71 zone so I popped the cool side pad on a thermostat. I was going to do a hot side thermo to but with the light off the temp drops to 85 or so, I figure in this cold of a room the uth needs to stay on all the time on the hot side.
Hey what are acceptable temps for a night time drop? Or do bp's even liek to have a cooler night time?
