What a Saturday! New cavy pig

Okay forgive me I'm a few days behind since I've been super busy!
This happened last Saturday.


I got a txt msg from someone saying "Want a cute tan/white guinea pig someone dropped off at Petsmart". First thought was who in the world?! Come to find out it was my friend Jess. Apparently my ex boyfriend gave her my #. So I drove out there and saw the pig. A total CUTIE! The persons LAME reason to dumping her was "My sister gave her to me because her kid would not take care of it". Ummm HELLO since when are KIDS held responsible to taking complete care for another life? Last time I checked ADULTS were in charge for the care of another ones life - kids, pets, etc. What a stupid and lame excuse for not wanting the poor thing! Also the person had her living on Ceder bedding. GROSS and the worse kind of bedding ever for really all animals.

So I grabbed some things for her and brought her back on home with me.

She looks good over all except she is SUPER skinny under all of puffy fur. Can feel every rib, hip bones, back, leg, shoulder bones, etc


And to make matters ever greater.... I believe this skin and bones female pig is pregnant. She has one big belly on her yet everywhere else is nothing but skin and bones.

This is "Hope" so I've been calling her!

What an adorable little abby!!!! Very cute face. If she is pregnant, be careful. If any of the babies are male, by the time they are 4 weeks old they can impregnate their mother and any sisters. Sex the litter at 3 1/2 weeks and remove any males. The girls can room with mom. I apologize if you already knew this, but if you didn't, it is important. She is a real cutie!!!!

Ah yes I do know about how males need to be moved out at 3 1/2 weeks. So far I can only feel two "squishy bubbles" in her belly. So if they are the babies hopefully all goes well! Any tips on how to fatten her up a bit? She has pellets at all times and now I'm giving her alfalfa hay since I know she & possible babies could use it.

Why would you take this girl in when you've already rehomed some of your own guinea pigs?

Because well I felt sorry for her and I miss having a wheeker around. Also the only reason I re homed those other two guinea pigs was because I was moving to FL (in which I did for a short period of time. Things didn't work out with the guy and I didn't like it) and I had a 17 hour drive down there during July and it's heat. On tops of July and it's heat my car does not have AC. Not sure if you know or not but Guinea Pigs over heat very easily - anything over 85 is highly dangerous for them. So re homing those two pigs was the best thing I could do at the time because they would have not made it in my sun baked oven aka car with out AC on the 17 hour trip.

well I would think that if you already have had to rehome several animals it's probably in your best interest to stop getting more
