Why is he not hiding?

Ok this isn't a concern but I have to admit I'm a little surprised by this. My new Blood Python doesn't bother hiding. He spends his day soaking in his water bowl and at night he hangs out in front of his cave.

He has no problem eating so I don't think he is stressed or scarred, he will occasionaly hide underneath his water bowl but for the most part this dude is out in the open. I've never seen a snake spend so much time out of their hide like this.

I wonder if he thinks his markings have him all concealed and I can't see him.:rolleye2:

Is it possible I have a rather brave Python and he thinks he is too cool for school?

Blood pythons are not so shy as BPs are.. just make sure he can actually fit in his hide.. bloods being so heavy bodied aren't quite so flexible as ball pythons.. lol

So long as he's feeding well, I wouldn't worry about him.

Thats what I love about snakes just when you think you know something about them they surprise you with the unexpected.

is he very commonly soaking in water? although its unlikely the soaking may be rom mites:)

I think so. His skin looks great. He is still acclimating so I'm sure I'll see more behavior that I haven't seen in my other snakes. My Argentine and Ball would just dart for the nearest hiding spot and never come out.

I can't wait for the handling phase to begin. Boy am I ever going to bleed.

Not a bad idea to check for mites, but bloods love to soak, so it is likely not that.

Well I'm coming up on the 3rd week of having him and he has a name now and there has been a small improvement! His name is Droon after a friend of mine.


The improvement is I can now take his water dish out of his tank without him trying to bite me HOWEVER....putting the dish back in there is another matter entirely. We are still working on that though so hope is still alive.:cool:
