After hurricane Katrina made it's glancing blow on south Florida, we had to cut down most of our avacado tree. I thought it was a gonner, but it came back. Prior to the storm we had seen an iggy on our neighbors roof several times. Well she took up residence in our tree after the storm. So I set up a food and water bowl for her in the tree. She disappeared for several months, but returened last week with a friend. She has gotten to the point that when her bowl is empty, she will climb on our patio umbrella and position herself to stare into our kitchen through the patio door. This is her way of demanding that we feed her. LOL Her friend is skittish and will not climb into our tree for food.

That's just too cool! My friend that rescues iggys has one that comes out of her huge indoor cage, trundles off down the hall, pops open the bathroom door, climbs into the tub and glares at you until you run her a nice tepid bath. When she feels she's had enough of a lovely soak she stands up and rapidly claws the edge of the tub indicating she'd like to be lifted out now (it's too slippery apparently for her to get out herself and she knows this). They can be quite the smart thing for a lizard apparently.

As with many other species, iguanas have established themselves here in south Florida. They are almost as plentiful as our native lizard species.

When the last hurricane threatened, I picked her up and put her in our spare bathrooms tub. The next day, after the storm passed us by, I put her back in the tree. Obviously she is an escaped pet. I don't think a wild iguana would allow me to handle it.

That is one beautiful, healthy-looking green iguana :) I'm glad you're making her and her friend welcome in your yard!

They remind me of my little ones. What are you feeding them? Just curious!
