dumb horse question...

I have no experience with horses other than I think they are beautiful. I might be working on a horse farm this summer for my externship for school. I have a real dumb question.

What exactly is a thoroughbred horse? Is that the breed of horse itself, or is it like saying a thoroughbred dog can be a pug, rottweiler. Doe sthat make sense? lol. Like is a quarter horse or a clydesdale a thoroughbred because its pure blood? Or is it its own breed of horse.

don't worry about it, many people get this stuff mixed up. A thoroughbred is a breed of horse. They are the horses that you usually see racing on TV. If a horse is 100% of one breed, it is called a purebred. Usually when people say that their horse is a clydesdale or a dutch warmblood, or any breed they mean it it is purely that breed. they will say QH X Percheron, or whatever the cross is, if it is a cross (unless they try to pass the horse as something its not. lol)

hec yea they are. honestly, i think snakes are more addictive. that is only because i know i can go to Walmart and get a new home (tub) for a snake. A horse, you have to get another acre of land. lol.

Horses can be very rewarding to work with; but you have to really get a feel for how they act and react to things.. A few hints I can think of..
a) Never stand directly behind or in front of one. They can get spooked by something and either kick out backward, frontward, or leap forward. I am sure that the people who will train you, will let you know these things, just a hint.. when I have one of them on the leadline, I stand at a 45-degree angle from their front line.
b) Horses can bite! I am not saying to be fearful and let them push you backward with their hoses; but I would avoid feeding treats by hand.. it's a great idea to get a small bucket or feed bowl and feed them out of that!
c) owch, it hurts if they step on your foot.. always be wary of where your, and their, feet are, especially in close quarters suchas grooming them in a stsll, etc.
