    Takin' a sick day..
    Me today: :blownose:
Bleh; I am definately under the weather today. I have had this cold forming for the last week; but now it also includes a fever and chills; one minute: freezing. Next minute: boiling. I felt bad calling in, but luckily I have a very understanding supervisor who saw how miserable I was yesterday trying to collect and blow my nose a hundred times.. it is veeery hard to stress the importance of a person's monthly payment on the phone while horking up snot..
I hate sick days! Usually the idea of a day at home is great; thinking of all I could get accomplished around the house.. but I don't feel like lifting a finger to do anything that requires effort (cleaning falls into that category..)
So you working or school-going people; what are your criteria for calling a day off? Mine are either a fever, migraine (I am useless on those days..) or a horrifically upset stomach that has ya running into the bathroom every 5 minutes (thank the stars that this is not happening now...)

I get 8 sick days a year. Last year I used 4 of them to wait home for snakes to come from Fed Ex/UPS.....

This year I hope to only have to use them when I have to stay home with my kids if they are sick!!

I hate taking days off when I am actually sick....

I'm a stay at home mom, so I have to be on death's door before I get a day off. I've only had a day and a half this year. If I can function at all, I'm going... it may be slow, but oh well.

Sorry to hear you're feeling so badly Jen. I hope a little rest does the trick. Make sure to drink tons of water!!!!

Ich, I hate taking sick days too, Charlie. I would rather be up and moving than lying there having snot clog up my nose.. hence, I am online. :)
It is helpful to rest though.. I am definately not straining myself like yesterday; think I made it worse by working, then going out with my friend for an hour or so shopping, then cleaning the barn, rat cages, etc.. but at least that's done pretty well for now.

i'm coming down with it, but i'm fighting it off pretty darn good. The one night i got tired, got headaches, was cold one second and breaking a sweat the next...i went out and grabbed a bottle of nyquil. i've taken 2 doses over the past 2 days and slept very well. I was able to finally get some sleep..hehe....so have Mark go grab some NyQuil for you and some chicken noodle soup...and you're golden for the rest of the day :gj:

I swear by Mucinex pills Jen. They really help thin the mucus so you can clear your lungs. Stay upright even when you sleep as much as possible. Drink tons of clear fluids (water, gingerale, tea, apple juice) as well as popsicles of course. Don't stress your poor lungs with the bedding from the critters, let Mark handle that or you'll be sicker longer than need be. Make a hot toddy....whiskey, water, honey, lemon juice...boil lightly and drink as hot as you can stand. My granny's cure for the common cold/flu and I swear by it (well she also made us wear wool socks and a wool cap and flannel jammies too...something to do with "sweating it out of you" LOL) Hope you feel better soon.

Oh yeah, NyQuil is my bedside companion in all of this. I actually debated taking some this morning and just sleeping all day.. but that doesn't seem to be a good idea.. I took it tues. and wed. nights.. then last night, I had this great idea.. "maybe I can try sleeping without it!" So I collapsed with sheer exhaustion, and woke up miserable and exhausted.. I should have taken it! Tonight it will me down my throat before you can say Jiminy Cricket..
Hm.. Jo, I do have a bottle of SoCo in the freezer; but heh, I didn't have any with Mark last night because I planned on taking the NyQuil, which I never did end up taking.. my mind is not itself when I am sick!

Argh! That reminds me of when I was little, and my gram made me hold these freezing cold washcloths on my head and chest to lower the fever! Brrrr....

I agree on the Mucinex - great stuff! Expensive, but great!

We get PTO days (Personal Time Off) that are used for sick or vacation, or just mental health days (days you just don't feel like going in, you can call in and say you are taking a personal day). I'm starting my fifth year with the company, so now I get 26 PTO days a year.

I only used one of last year's 21 for a true sick day - and that's only because they sent me home at about 8:30 (I get in at 6 every day). There were 15 of us that day with some horrible bug that had us all running from both ends for about three days. Luckily it hit on the weekend.

    Hope you feel better soon!
