Freshwater stingray

anybody have any experience with them? There is one at the local herp. shop, and i really want him/her.

what do they eat?
how much swimming room do they need?
what fish can i put in with him/her?

Fun to keep, but a they are delicate.
Big tank with lots of surface area. Smooth substrate. Pristine water conditions. They will eat prawns, fish, krill, scallops, no flake food. LOL.
They do not do good with other fish. They will get stressed and nipped at. The only really good tankmate would be an arrowana since they will utilize the top of the tank and not the bottom while the ray will use the bottom and not the top.

Any idea what type of ray it is? Motoro, etc? Some are a lot more delicate than others.

The only thing I know about them is, they need a sandy/smooth bottom substrate. :)

Sounds like it would be a cool addition. Never knew you could keep those as pets.

If it's the same species that I've seen, they get extremely LARGE! I've seen the "Black with Red Spots" species 3-4 foot wide! :eek:

yeah. i wish i could get one, but i just dont have the money for a bigger tank right now. and it wouldt be fair to keep him in my 20L. lol. i could get a saltwater one and keep it in my pool though. haha. My mom had lung cancer, so we don't use chlorine, we have a saltwater pool. I have a feeling it isnt the right chemical makeup for fishys.

That would be awesome to keep one.
