    question about hides
I'm about a week away from getting my first BP, and I just thought of another question. Will BPs eventually settle in to their enviro and not need hides (like the RTB) or will they always need hides, no matter how large they get?

They will always need hides otherwise they will get stressed and uncomftorable and eventually not eat. The caves should be small and real tight for the snake but as they grow so should the cave. the cave should have very little space and only room for the snake itself so it is tight around the snake. Also i suggest putting identical caves on the cold side and warm side of the cage.

BPs are a completely different snake when it comes to personality. They are much more shy and require hides their whole lives. Some people who have rack systems don't use hides but even with a rack its still good to have them in there. Balls are a good snake to start out with, good luck when you do get yours and make sure you check out the caresheet here.

From the experiences snake owners who employ racking systems, not all adult ball python need hides in a rack as the rack creates a fairly secluded environment...but then other "rack" people provide hides regardless.

If you're going to keep your ball python in a glass vivarium or even a tub, two identical hides are highly recommended. =)

Oh and not all RTBs "grow out" of wanting/using hides...every snake is different and a snake owner needs to cater to their snake's needs and likes.

O yea, i forgot all about racks. These are like shelves that you put many different snakes in.

In this case you dont need a cave necessarily.
