You could make an incubator out of anything. Wood has it's drawbacks, as it's prone to moisture damage, but if you polyurethane it well it would last for a good while. If you do make one from wood, use wood thats not kiln dried as it destroys the R value of the wood.(insulative value)

A styrofoam cooler is cheaper and easier, and will insulate far better than wood, making heating much easier and consistent. A 5 dollar cooler, a piece of plexy or glass for a nicesee through lid, and a strip of flexwatt will hatch an egg. I believe the Barkers have pics of thier very simple incubators. Thiers is in a thermo controlled room but some flexwatt and thermostat would make the same basic design work anywhere.

Only real piece of advice is to set it up far in advance to see how it works. If it keeps the humidity high, and the temp steady, it's good to go.

wood is fine, if you use sealed egg boxes, moisture is no concern. i would line the inside with foamboard to help with heat loss. you would basically build a wooden box or chest to your specs and heat it.

That's all I've ever used .... even the walk-in incubator that I use today is basically a wood and sheet rock box lined with insulation.

    Get r done.

allright!! Thanks guys! I think I am going to stick with flexwatt, cooler, plexiglass. The wooden one will be a better idea when I get more snakes! Thanks
