    Space heaters
Just got my first serious heating bill of the winter, and it's $180 worth of serious. I'm using a forced air ceramic space heater to keep temps right in a spare room. Is there something more efficient/less costly? Those oil ones, maybe?

Our gas bill always jumps really high in the winter...go figure that's when its used most. We keep the house pretty cool...actually to cool for me without slippers and a sweatshirt. The animal is heated with a oil filled heater that does very well. Before I was using a cheap electric fan based heater but this unit heats more evenly and there is no dry air blowing around. I can't say for sure if the electric bill has changed much or not I will have to ask my wife for a comparison.

I think most people will recommend the oil filled heater, which is why I finally changed...that and it was only like $30 or so at the walmart.

I agree, oil filled heaters are the way to go, imo MUCH better way to heat then the space heaters and keeps the temps very steady.

Oil-filled heaters are the best. HOWEVER>.. I have had problems with two seperate ones when the cord plug overheated. Check it frequently when you first start using it. But otherwise they are awesome, and also very safe!
