    Bugs, possibly mites
Yesterday i went to change the water in my snakes cages and there were little bugs floating in it. Obviously my first thought is mites. However there are none on any of my snakes. That and most people say mites are black specks while these are a kind of light brown, almost clear and see through. I'm going ahead with regular mite treatment but was wondering if they might be something else. Hopefully something easier to get rid of.

Hm.. the mties that I have seen, were small black things. I don't know what yours are, since you said a) they are clear, and b) they're not on the snake.. by the time it was so bad that I saw them in our water dishes, you could plainly see one or two on the snakes themselves.
PAM works wonders. I wou'd treat with it as a general precaution when getting any new snakes; just simply follow the directions on the can, and life is good. :)

Kyle,do you by chance have any birds or small furry animals? If so some of the food can contain little gnat like flies.
