So today I actually made it down to the Phoenix Herp. Society to do some volunteer work. I spent about 9 hours there helping out. They had me feeding the boas, pythons, and other snakes. We fed the tortoises which was about 90 sub-adults to adults. They also had me feeding the snapping turtles which was really fun. And heres the best part. They have about 10 gila monsters. They gave me a pair of gloves and had me take them all out of there cages for feeding time. Here in Arizona, if you touch one in the wild you face a $3,500 fine. So geting to work with them was awesome. I got bit by one which didnt matter as the gloves are really thick and came from mid-west tongs. I go back on Thursday to watch them work with the venomous snakes. I expressed my intrest in them and he told me that I could come down and they would teach me how to handle them with tongs and hooks. Just thought I would share my story.
