Since last night was the first night of Hannakah, I wanted to wish all of our members, who celebrate it, a Happy Hannakah.

Merry Yule.. I gotta go out and get us a Yule Log! We don't have an indoor fireplace, but I want to get one going out in the firepit.. though, once the snow does fall (if it ever does) I may have to stake it out so I know where the firepit is.. lol
Aleesha, do you burn a Yule Log? I have actually never done it before, but I want to this year.

i did when we had a wood burning fireplace. now we have a gas so we don't anymore. ;)

we take the log and pass it around the 'circle' - everyone holds a candle and as it drips onto the log they put their wishes into it... sealing them in. once everyone is done, we put it into the fire and ask the Goddess to hear our wishes and to answer them for our greatest good. ;)

we have a yule party (tomorrow night) - my students and their families are invited. we all bring three unwrapped gifts, something for the food bank and an appetizer to share.

the gifts go onto the gift table and once we've all eaten... we each choose a number and starting with number one... we take turns going to the table and choosing a gift... everyone ends up with three gifts at the end of the night.

there's also a kids gift table for everyone under the age of 16.

it's a great time... i spent the day baking today getting ready for it. we also got some yummy coffee additives for the non-driving guests! :D

i forgot to add: instead of the yule log we use candles. everyone puts their wishes into a candle (tea light) and then they light it. we allow them to completely burn themselves out... releasing our wishes for our greatest good. ;)

I have done the yule log with everybody putting their wishes on wooden stars and putting the stars into the fireplace to burn with the log instead of the candle.

I will acutally miss yule this year, it's being held on the same day as the swap. I messed up and thought the last swap was on sunday instead of sat, and I have a bunch of scorpions to drop off, so I can't miss this one.

I usually go up to Circle Sanctuary and celebrate the holidays.

    Blessed Yule everybody :)
