Poor thing...

My friend has a pet store, and she had a male BCI for awhile, about 6'. She sold him to a guy, and months went by.. just last week, he brings the snake back b/c he's off to college.. the poor thing is skin-and-bones and has retained shed... he is actually in-shed and I recommended her to basically stabilize him and Up his humidity.. I will be seeing him on the weekend. I am scared, though, thinking of taking him home.. grr.. at least he is in a better place..
They had him on CEDAR.. no, I am not making this up.... I was livid finding out. He was so vibrant before, never skipped a meal.. my friend doesn't want to sell him and hardly even wants to keep herps in inventory anymore after this.

Jen just be very very careful bringing him into your home. BCI's can carry things that will kill your BP's and this one has obviously been through hell, poor thing. We kept unbelievably strict quarantine when we were rehabbing Sonja (aka Rauri) not even allowing the BCI to exercise in any room a BP might be in at a later point. It's awful that this person did this to the snake. I hope you, your friend or a reptile rescue can take the time to help this snake out and find it a wonderful forever home like we were lucky enough to do with Becky.

I can't stress enough that reptiles need to be read up on and need more special care then a cat or dog. Sad cause if it were my RTB he'd be in the best shape I could give him. Poor thing.

Oh that is horrible! I think something like that would make me stop selling herps also...that is if I sold herps. LOL I wish you the best of luck in getting the poor thing back to health:)

aww. how sad!!! I went to a herp shop one time when i was in MA, and when they sold their animals, they forced the customer to sit down and read a care sheet BEFORE they could take the animal home. Most people never realize how much work snakes are. I didnt, when i got my snake, i kept him in a tub, with no heat, water, no substrate or hides, etc, etc, becuase that is what somebody told me i could do. If i was educated i would've kept him the right way (i do now, dont worry.lol.)...Everybody just needs to be aware, ESPECIALLY when it comes to a life that is in their hands.

I saw him on Friday; he is not in "that" bad of shape, but definately dehydrated; pretty wrinkly skin.. but his muscle tone is not lost, and he is definately not limp or baggy or showing any other real signs of starvation.. But, the skin on his nose is bad. It is peeled up a little and you can see a tiny bit of proud flesh underneath; maybe half a centimeter.. he is in blue right now, and I am afraid that the nose will get rubbed more when he tries to shed.. bad eyecaps too. I advised my friend to keep his humidity up, and keep him hydrated; he was in a CRAPPY 30g long tank with cedar shavings, with a HUGE red lightbulb lamp that is the size that rock bands use in their stage shows.. and no water.
She put some neosporin on the exposed flesh, but it was a bit tough because it's in between his nostrils and we didn't want to suffocate him.. hard to explain, but the skin around his nose is "built up" almost like there were hardened salt crystals or something; I gently removed some (staying away from the proud flesh) so that his nostrils would be more exposed, and he is not wheezing and his mouth is not mucousey.
Yet he is still not in as bad of shape as I thought he would be, besides the dehydration.. hopefully he sheds out good.. the nose rubs were from a horrible homemade screen lid with gaps about half an inch wide.
