humidity risen to 84%! how do i lower it?
Got a problem....I drilled a second set of holes in my tub last night in hopes that it would lower the humidity, but it only lowered it like 3 percent...
Heres a pic of how many holes are in it:

Theres just as many holes on the other side. Theres not however any holes on the ends. Should there be holes there, too? or do i just need to put a second set of holes in there? or maybe make the holes bigger than 1/4 "?
I put a smaller water dish in there as well, with no improvement.
I really want to fix this soon for fear of giving monty a RI!

That doesn't look like very many holes. You can also place holes in the cover, and move the water bowl as far away as possible from the heat source.

Holes on the ends will help...and if that's still not enough, then a few holes in the top as well. Also, a small fan close by to circulate the air (but not blow directly on the tub) will help as well.

Do people really heat tubs with lamps? WOW ... I had no idea that was going on? :O

LOL. I have to admit that I did that at one time, although it was to supplement an UTH and I had it on a rheostat. Still... :rolleye2: :ohmygod:

Yeah i know it looks really odd.... It's only a temporary thing until my herpstat t-stat and flexwatt come in the mail! main reason is i dont want to turn up my lower-quality zoo-med uth very high for fear of endangering monty, so i leave it lower, and just raise the ambient temps of the tub with the lamps for now. better to be slightly imperfect than the chance of burning him, correct?
and yeah...both the uth and both lamps are connected to rheostats.

Wow...No doubt! I would think that setup is just asking for the lid to be melted :O

I've never heard of high humidity causing an RI, only low temperature. 84% isn't that bad, as long as the substrate in the tub isn't wet. It's ideal during a shed. Is it possible that he spilled water in there?
You can always add more holes but personally I would wait until you have a permanent system for heating because that change will mess with your numbers.

50% is the suggested humidity unless in blue then 70% should be the level.
