    why are females more expensive?
Why is it that females are more expensive than males? To me, males should be more because they are sexually mature sooner and they can be bred to multiple females, whereas females can only produce offspring with one snake. Any ideas?

You pretty much answered your own question. Females are valued higher, because they take longer to raise to breeding weight, and you need the gals to lay the eggs. :D

Supply and demand too - breeders hang onto their breedable females, making the supply far less than the demand for breedable girls.

Also as in real life with Human Males, the men are expendable. Males go off to war for God and Country. Females stay home a propagate the peoples. If the females were to go to war, then the Human Race would dissapear. Men may help create babies, but they don't "make" them. Therefor, the female is far more valuable than the male. PERIOD.

    *cough*BIASED*cough*

    Eh.. yeah.

On topic, though, I've seen both males and females be more expensive, so I guess it varies.

I take offense this post also. Saying any human is "expendable" in war is outright sick. I'd like to see you tell this to the families in my unit who have lost loved ones...or anyone who has lost loved ones due to war. Not only that but there are plenty of females serving during war times as well.

Sorry for going OT but that comment is just not right with me any way.

I have to agree with you. that's a terrible comparison, and i have female friends in the military.

As a Stay at home mom, I have to say that a man is just as "valuable as a female" at least in my house. If it weren't for my Husband we wouldn't be where we are today. But if it weren't for me we would have a very dirty house. Men and women in terms of humans are equally "valuable" in my eyes and in many ways.

As far as snakes go, Also I was wondering if another reason would be the fact that females can only produce so many clutches in her lifetime and males can reproduce longer? I am not sure if that is true with snakes or not but could that be a factor alond with the others mentioned?

I agree with the others! This type of comment is low and uncalled for.Do you have or know anyone that is in the military or has lost a loved one? My brother-in-law has been back and forth from Germany to Iraq numerous times and we worry about him the whole time.NO ONE IS EXPENDABLE EVER!

First off just for the record. I am a Male. I am named after Rabbi Akiva of the first century AD.

Secondly, I served in the US Army for 6 years, many of them in a combat capacity. Every male in my family going back to the foundation of the US (actually - 1729) has served in the US military or militia. Many family members have died in defense of country.

Thirdly, and most unfortunately, my statement was based on HISTORY and not sentimental new age feelings. People of today do not realize that for THOUSANDS of years the men went out to do (hunter/gatherer/warrior) tasks while the females stayed at home and took care of babies and house. I did not demean either task; however, it has always fallen on the men to do the dying.

Men are as a collective expendable, not as individuals to individual spouses, children, and communties. Women are just too valuable, collectively, to the economy to be sent to war.:salute:
