So I got good news and bad news.
Good news: Abbath ate his first meal with me. I put the rat pup in, and 1 minute later I checked on him and he was coiled around it. Yay! Btw, WestCoast told me he eats every two weeks so no, I didn't forget to feed him. ;)
Bad news: I got a jury summons today. Ugh, and they aren't letting as many people get out of it even if its a financial hardship. So I'm HOPING I can get out of it. I don't get pay for jury duty from my work and if I had to take a few days off from work for it I'm gonna be uber-pissed. They don't mind if you lose money yet, if you try to take money from the state they sure are stingy!

good luck with jury duty, and congrats on the feeding!

i've never been called for jury duty.
isn't the 'answer' really just sounding racist, prejudiced and angry?

I thought it was a law that you were paid for jury duty?

Yeah. You get 15.00 the second day of duty on after and you get 34 cents per mile but only one way. My friend's mom had to server for a week. 105.00 is not worth it.

If you're lucky, it's enough to cover parking and lunch for the day. But usually not even that much.
It's a shame, because the jury system is vital. But its been turned into such a vampyric experience that most of the people truly suited for the duty find ways out of it because they simply can't afford to do it. And we end up with jury boxes filled with people who are there because they have no where else to be anyhow...or are bitter about being stuck there...neither of which lends a lot of confidence in the trial process.
