    Digital Cameras..
Ok so my girlfriend wants a Digital camera for christmas. She really likes the sony cybershot 8.1 mega pixel and I will say after seeing it at the store it was really nice. I also saw a panasonic and samsung 7.2 that was really nice as well... we got our pictures taken at the sears store and they were using all Olympus and were swearing by them... I know alot of people here have digital cameras that take great photo's and I know as far as the pixel rating goes it basically represents how clear the picture will look when blown up to a 8" x 10" or larger... Anybody here have any opinions on any of these above brands or reccomendations? If it was up to me I'd go with an SLR D50 but I don't have quite that much flow for a camera. Any opinions/suggestions/feedback is serverely welcome lol...

Unless you're a serious professional, brand really doesn't matter. They all have the advanced technology that will take superb pictures, assuming you know what you're doing.

People who are more into Photography are always hardcore biased, usually towards Nikon. However, Canon's do well, and so does Olympus, Panasonic, and Samsung.

what will be the primary use of the camera? going out and taking pictures with friends? if so, a cheapo 5 megapixel camera will be more than enough.

do you want those super detailed picture? spend the money and buy a Nikon or Canon

Well my girlfriend does graphic design/web design. So I can understand her want or need for a high mega pixel if the picture gets blown up. But honostly it will be like an all around camera. I plan on taking pictures of my snakes, some other photography besides friends and stuff like that. and I'm sure she'll be using it for work and stuff as well... Nothing to serious but quality is definetly important...

I'd say they all will do the same thing for the most part...but I didn't know if there was a certain reliability associated with one brand over another.

The sony cameras are higher priced for the most part... I'm thinking your paying for the name going with one of them...but I don't know...

you couldn't go wrong with a 5meg nikon or canon. i personaly like nikons. if she needs more than 5 megs or wants to enlarge then DSLR is the way to go.

But for like an example though...if she was to blow a picture up for like a magazine cover size or a catolouge cover or something would there be a noticeable difference in the 5 mega pixel as oppose to the 7 or 8?

I ask that because she's a perfectionist and she's really big on quality...

I've seen great photo's taken with 3.2 megapixel cameras so I'm not as anal about it... but she is...

a 5 meg should enlarge to around 8x10 without any problems. if she is really picky and a perfectionist go with DSLR'S like nikon D80/D100 and up, plus alot more for high quality (perfectionist) lenses! :D
