Hello All!
This week I will be getting my first ball python. I just want to make sure I have everything I need. I will be getting a hatchling so I have currently have a 10 gallon tank, aspen bedding, thermometers, hydrometer, undertank heater, rheostat, ceramic water bowl, and hide. Am I missing anything or doing anything incorrectly. I just want to make sure cause I don't want to hurt my new baby.

Re: Hello All!
Congratulations on the new baby! I believe you are supposed to have 2 identical hides. One for the 90-95 side and one for the 80-85 side... Good luck
!:)

Re: Hello All!
hi! welcome
make sure you have two identical hides placed on the hot/cool spots, since you mentioned a 10 gallon, i assume you're going to have a screen top, if so, make sure you cover a portion of it to up the humidity, and for measuring temps, i reccomend digital thermometers with a probe

Re: Hello All!
Hello and welcome! 2 identical hides placed on opposite ends of the enclosure are necesary for a happy, eating ball python. Also if you are planning on using those half logs from a petstore... don't, they don't give your snake enough security with both those open ends. I suggest small plastic bowls with entrance holes cut in them. I got mine at the dollar store for less than 2 bucks and they are perfect. A digital thermometer is always best for reading temps, the dial ones are very innaccurate. Oh yea and when you do get him/her make sure you leave them alone with no handling for a week so that they can get used to their new home. Good luck.

Welcome aboard! :handshake:
Seems like folks covered most everything I might have suggested. I'll just add this: Make sure the top is VERY secure. Snakes are amazing escape artists and can squeeze themselves through unbelievably small cracks and spaces.
