    Petco employee!
Went into petco today to pic up some gcd. While there my hubby and i decided to take a look at what they had for reptiles. First off I looked at their cresties. The girl there said they were all males. All these geckos were the same size and some were definitely showing there "bump" lol while one was not. I asked the sex on the one that had no "bump" and she said "They are all males" I said really then why is there no bump on this one. She says if they have a little white dot on either side below the tail they are male. My question to you is this true and if it is the one with out a bump that was the same size as the others must be a unich!
Second they had a hatchling rtb that I asked to see and this girl handled this snake like it was a toy. She literally was just tossing it from hand to hand, forcing its head up "checking for parasites" and just about dropped the poor thing a few times. My hubby had to walk away he was so nervous. I stayed incase she dropped the poor thing or better yet bit her!
I don't understand how Petco can just let these "kids" run amuck in their stores. Any feedback on any of this, especially her comment on sexing of cresties is much awaited!:D

Yea i have noticed mosat petco emplyees lack animal inteligence. I managed to find an employer to help me find a gecko but he only knew abbout fish....big help i had to teach him what i knew about gecko's. Another employee was showing me cresteds and he droped them like twice and said its no problem. There used to be a local reptile shop by me and it was grate because the guy cared abot the pets but hes not there anymore. Now i goto petland to get food for my snake and gecko and its not a neg. or pos. they just sell the stuff you know? one employee likes snakes and geckos but shes telling me the gecko needs uva light during the day and moonglow at night, and to feed just crickets.

sorry i didnt answer the question on sexing technique ive heard idea that a ball at the end of the tail ment its a boy, and ofcoarse the "bump".

male crested geckos have enlarged pre-anal pores whereas females do not. you can sex males this way before they get a hemipenal bulge. not all males drop at the same age, so whether the gecko has a bulge or not is not always a good way to determine sex.

the white dots the petco employee was referring to are spurs which are used in breeding to help align the parts. both males AND females have spurs although sometimes the spurs on males are slightly bigger.
