    Is this fine ?
i got a bp a month ago and everywhere i look and read about the setup they say to get the tempurature at around 75 to 85, but does the tempurature in the air matter if i have a under tank heating device will he know to go in that spot if hes cold or other way arround ??

    welcome to the boards!!

i'd say about 90 dregrees on the "warm side" and no lower than 80 degrees on the "cool side" (did i get that right?). he'll move to whichever spot suits him whether he's too cold or too warm. oh and dont forget to have 2 hides in the enclosure, 1 on the warm side and 1 on the cool side (so am i learning yet BPnet veterans?)

You need to measure the temperatures with a digital thermometer to be sure that you are providing the right temperatures. I keep all my ball pythons with a 93 warm side and and 83 cool side temp. I use a thermostat that regulates the heating device, and then I double check those temps with a digtial thermometer. I would first be sure of the temps you are providing before worrying whether or not to add more.

You don't want to see a bump when feeding. A meal that is the same size or smaller than the widest girth is more than adequate. You shouldn't feel bigger is better. If the rodent is only a quarter of the size of the ball python, then you may want to consider increasing the size. It's hard to give you an exact measurement on appropriate size, since many people use different terminology for the different sizes. You may want to use a string to measure the widest part of your snake and use that to gauge the prey more appropriately. I hope this will be of some help to you.

The temp on the cool side need to be between 80 to 84 and on the warm side it need to be between 90 to 94

The temp needs to get temp reading at the bottom of the enclosure not at the top. Strips or dial thermometer are useless and do not give an accurate reading.

The best way to check the temp on both side is to buy a Digital Accurite thermometer from walmart or lowes you put the prob on the substrate on the warm side and you put the other part on the cool side so you can get an accurate reading of both temp and also humidity.

If your temps are falling below those ranges then you need to do whatever necessary to stabilize them. With you temps far below what they should be, and hearing popping I would think it's very possible that your snake has developed an RI. I would recommend a trip to your local herp vet as soon as possible.
