    PS3 Craze
Imagine...standing in line for DAYS for a freakin toy....spending hundreds of dollars on something that is probably only worth 70 bucks in parts....and then ya get robbed, ya get shot, ya get jacked over this thing...

Here's a story on a dude getting shot over it:
    http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/11/17/pla....ap/index.html

Now on Ebay, these things are selling for 10K

what is the deal with this? Playstations are fun, but not that fun

    I guess...to each their own...

Yeah....that's an insanity I really don't get. Nor do I understand why the company...when they KNOW a million people are gonna stand in line for one...only ship out 400k on "opening day"..... :confuzd:

I wouldn't pay that much retail for a game system anyhow....but if I DID want one...I'd just wait a couple months for the furor and the holidays to pass....then just calmly walk in and pick one up without such a fuss.

Ironic. Many would say the same about people that pay thousands, even hundreds for a snake.

lol ...i had the exact same thing posted in my original post...but for unknown reasons, i deleted it

They're talking about it on the radio right now and have had a few people call in on why they've been in line since Monday. I think about 95% of the people waiting in line are just throwing these things on Ebay. It's not a bad turn around I guess...spend 6-7 hundred bucks, throw it on ebay and in a few hours it's sold for between 3 and 10 thousand dollars...not a bad way to make a quick buck.

judy it's not so easy to just pick one up in a few months. that's the reason they go for so much $$. when the xbox360 came out... it was over 6 months before you could actually walk into a store and purchase one (at least up here). they'd have the empty boxs but no stock!

so if you want to 'gift' your kids the gift that 'counts' (in their eyes) this christmas... you get someone to stand in line or you buy it for outrageous prices on ebay...

my daughter works at an electronics/computer store and they had people camping out yesterday waiting for the doors to open this morning AND they opened earlier than usual... just to handle the crowd so by time the regular customers came... the crowd would be gone ;)

having a hubby and son who LOVE their video games... i totally understand the 'need' to get a system and they will get this one - but not till next year when we can actually get one... $600 x 2 (as they each need their own - heaven forbid they take turns!) is expensive enough... i won't be getting one on ebay!

Hehe....true. For me though, the mystery isn't why people would spend $500 on a game. Many people who like that sort of thing will surely get $500 worth of fun out of it.

For me...the mystery lies in why people would stand in line for three days for a chance to buy a game that they can have relatively effortlessly if they just wait for a few weeks. And if the motivation for all those "line standers" is to turn around and resell it on Ebay for a quick profit...the mystery merely increases as to why people would spend thousands of dollars for something they can have at a fraction of the price....if they just wait a few weeks.

I guess for some...the status of having one of the first new systems to hit store shelves is worth that much time and money. Doesn't mean I understand it though. ;)

yeah true. On top of that, first generation PS3's are full of glitches...i'd be pissed if i spend a few thousand on ebay for this thing and then it's all full of bugs. wait a few years till the bugs get worked out and pay a fair price...i think i'll do that...i'll end up buying a PS3...but not with those kinda price tags...i got snakes to buy!

Ahhh...we were typing at the same time. But even so...change my arguements to a few months rather than weeks...still applies, at least for me. hehehe...if I can wait 4 years to buy my first BP and another 10 years to get to really start breeding snakes in any number...I guess I could easily wait six months for a game to come out.

And if my kids wanted any object so badly that they expected me to stand in line for days or shell out thousands of dollars for a $500 toy....they'd be getting a lesson in priorities and the real meaning of Christmas. (Not saying that's the right way for everyone to go....just that that is what would happen in this house. ;) )

Sony is having major production/procurement issues with some of the components of the blue-ray technology in the PS3's. It could be a lot longer than a few weeks before they are able to deliver any more stock.

If you are a college student or otherwise non-committed person, standing in line for 3 days to make a $2500 profit doesn't sound all that bad. That's probably more than most of us make in 3 days working normal jobs.......
