smallish problems

well, I have 2 things today.

1. OT - my baby boy cat, age 1 1/2 yrs old, just had surgery last thursday for a broken femur. he had to have the ball of the femur removed, and she rebuilt a ball joint for him to be able to walk again.

he's doing about as can be expected I suppose. whines and winces every time he moves. he's got about 22 staples in his hip.

so can you all think happy healing thoughts for him to heal faster.


and 2. I got live mousies today as usual, only Nagaina refused to take it. she wont touch f/t or pre killed

I have tried 2 times today so far. so do I try it again, or just assume she wont take it? if she wont eat it, what in the world do I do with it? its still live, and I dont want to just kill ir for nothing.

help please.

I don't think she is going to eat it if you offer again today. Just wait until next week. Make sure all your temps and humidity levels are good and she has hides she likes to use.

As for the mouse... if at all possible you might want to keep it alive somewhere if you have a spare cage, that way you don't have to buy another one next week. If not, maybe take it back to where you got it from if you don't want to kill it?

get some type of cage a food dish and either a bottle or water bowl to keep on hand. You're likely to run into that from time to time, so it never hurts to have the supplies to keep a mouse alive for a while on hand. Shouldnt cost to much (no more than a few "wasted meals" would cost you probably). The only problem with that idea is you may end up with another pet :P

Yep when you buy and feed live you are going to have this happen so best as PK said to have a small rodent setup handy. If your snake doesn't eat this week then you've just got a nicer, fatter live prey item for next week. :) All you really need for such temporary housing is a good sturdy small plastic box with lots of holes melted in the lid (or a bit of the lid cut out and covered in strong wire mesh), a small water bottle, a dish for food and if you want toss in some toilet paper rolls or a small kleenex box for the mouse to goof around with (more to do, the less chewing the little fuzzy horrors do LOL). I have a spare 5 gallon tank that works perfectly for the occasional left over live mouse feeder.

Have to just echo what the others have said....get yourself set up with a spare cage for a refused live rodent. Always good to have a back-up plan!


Also, check with the store you bought it from. Some stores will happily take the rodents back and give you store-credit to use the next time you go in to buy a feeder.


Sounds like your poor kitty has had a rough time of it! Give him lots of pampering and lovin'! I hope he recovers quickly!

I used a small Critter Keeper for just such an occassion. Last year, Kashmire went on an extended fast, so I had two girl mice that survived his fast and became pets and moved up to a mouse "condo"! LOL. One has since passed away of old age, and I don't expect the second to live more than a few more months - she's starting to get that old look to her as well.
