    Poop and mites related???
I came home today to a big surprise!!! A big piece of poop!! After I cleaned it out I went and handled my BP.. And notice a mite on him.. I killed it and handled him some more.. nothing.. not a trace of mites.. Also look inside the tank and running my hand through the aspen still nothing.. Should I be worried? Does this have anything to do with the poop (ie Mites inside his poop)

    Thanks.

If it was tiny, black and crawling, then it was probably a snake mite. Provent-a-Mite is the thing to get in that case. It kills existing mites and (most importantly) the unhatched eggs too--breaking the cycle. I'm pretty sure it's not related to the poo in any way. They are masters at hiding and eggs are basically invisible. Check in eye sockets and under snakes neck scales (mites fav. places). If the bugs were white, they are something else. Look for a thread on this (there are many) to properly use Provent-a-Mite. I know one thing though...you can't spray it directly on the snake.

I read in a forum and someone said if you snake ate a rodent that has mites, that the poop might have mites afterwards :confuzd: I got no idea..

Those mites would be long dead if the snake had defecated them out and rat mites will not infect a snake and the other way around. If there are little white mites on the feces, it just means you need to clean more often and be a bit more meticulous in your cage cleaning habits. I believe they come about from the substrate(if I'm wrong, smack me with a broom..).

PROVENT-A-MITE, STAT!! Run, don't walk to your nearest online dealer and get a can.......:P
Congrats on the healthy poo...has it been examined by your vet for internal parasites??? But the mites could be in the bedding, or as eggs on your snake and now they're hatching. Is your baby ball the only snake in your collection? If not, did you quarantine new arrivals???

I've quarantined all of our new snakes as they arrive for three months, but still ended up with mites. Those creepy-crawlies are a b***h to get rid of, UNLESS U use the P.A.M. (Provent-a-Mite) and they'll spread from snake to snake in your collection.

Good luck in your treatment plan. :)

I'm wondering if our one snake has mites, I've checked and checked but dont see anything...yet he wont get out of his water bowl :(
Does someone have a picture of mites on a snake so I know exactly what I'm looking for..I figured I would know it when I see it, but I'd still like to see a picture of it.
    Thanks,

I saw a pic around here some where but i can't find it now... You don't see it becoz its inside the scales.. or it might still be eggs.. If you look carefully you will see something black sticking out from scales... usually near the neck and eyes of your snake...

Yeah I keep looking in all the right places...just not seeing anything out of the norm. it doesnt help that the same snake that is soaking is also in a hunger strike....all the signs are there I just dont see any mites...I'm to PAM everything just to be safe.
