Has this happened to you?
I have been instructed to work with someone on a project where I have a great deal of experience and the other person has a great deal of "title". This person out ranks me in the corporation.
This brings me to my current situation. I was trying to explain a very simple file naming convention that is necessary to use the product I manage. This other person just could not get it. I repeated the process several times, until I realized that he was not trying to be obnoxious. I truely believe that he is just not capable (mentally) of grasping the concept.
I now have to come up with a way to help/educate him in the product from the level of a grade school education. I think that I have tamed my frustration, but this is going to be very difficult.
Has anyone else been in this situation?

Re: Has this happened to you?
oooh how very painful. i used to work with people like that and every day was a struggle. at my current job it's not really a problem except at the moment. we are working with another company on a big project and their project manager is just...a little slow. i have to explain things to him 5 times and then he starts to get all huffy and snotty with me and i'm like, ok, i'm not trying to be degrading here, but i do need you to understand what i'm telling you so that this thing will work! agh! :ohmygod:
Re: Has this happened to you?
this is how i handle this situation... stop, turn your thoughts around about 90 degrees and start again. in other words... they don't understand it and you explaining it the same way over again doesn't help them. try explaining it in another way... eventually you'll find a 'way' that works for them.
if possible... use something visual to assist them. as a homeschooling mom, that's what i do when my kids just don't get it. bottom line: smarties always assist a situation. don't know why... but they do and they are a very useful teaching tool! *who knew?*
Re: Has this happened to you?
hmm, so how can i get some smarties through to our project manager via telephone? maybe i could fax them over while i am doing the explaining...
