Q about real branches in snake enclosure

i'm talking about the pretty branches that they sell for you to keep in your snake's home. for them to hang out and climb on, and to make your set up more aesthetically pleasing. but i have a Q.

How do people get the smell from the snake out of those branches? I remember i was cleaning out my snake's home before and its ceramic clay pot stank really bad, because i guess it got peed on and it took FOREVER to scrub the smell out. i had to keep re-soaking it in water and rinsing it out and the smell still lingered.

but i was wondering...how do people get the smell out of branches? because they are very pretty but seem like a hassle.

if your talking about the fake plastic of cloth ones juns soak it in hot dish water then wash it off after an hour or so.

Boil it in hot water or soak it in water. I soaked mine in bleach then soaked them in hot water for a day each before baking at 350 until dry when I used them. Never had a problem

I use antibacterial dish soap to clean my snakes' tubs and cage items. I scrub well with a green scrubby thing and there is no odor left behind.

aren't you talking about real wood?

once odors get in... i don't know if you can get them out. just sitting here thinking about cat or dog pee on wood... once it's in there... it's IN there. :grabbed:

Yeah; if the wood's not sealed, there will be phantom odors.

I have no problem with smell. Strong bleach water soak. soak and rinse in clear water repeatedly then bake at 350 degrees. works great and no harm to snake.

I do the same thing, and it always seems to work. I had Iguanas for a long time and boy can they smell up a wood cage. I also do the same thing for nice wood I find out in the wild. (god that sounds funny)

i couldn't resist :P

after baking my snake's log hide at ~200 degrees, this black shiny liquid seeped out and dried. i tried to wipe it off, but it had already hardened. does anyone think this is safe to put back in the tank?
