Hey Guys

Just wanted to say hello to you all.I have two corn snakes at the moment and am looking at other snakes.
Im looking at getting a ball python and am looking for all the info i can get.Have got loads of care sheets now but just a couple of things i want to know.

What size will they get to when fully grown?
What size viv would a full grown adult be comftable in?
Is it ok to house more than one ball python in the same viv?
Is glass or wood vivs better for them?
Whats more important floor space or climbing space?

Any other info you can dig up would be awsome

It is not good to house more than one snake in a cage.. they are not social and are easily stressed by living together.. also they can pass parasites and diseases around. The only time two ball pythons should be in the same cage is for breeding.

Floor space is more important than height.. ball pythons are not arboreal.. however a young BP is going to feel more secure in a smaller cage (something the size of a plastic shoebox)

To answer your questions...

1. Typically 3-4 feet for males, 4-5 feet for females.
2. One square foot of space per foot of snake, so figure a 4 square foot enclosure for most male and female Balls.
3. No.
4. Either are fine. Glass provides more visibility for you, but they are usually more difficult to maintain temps and humidity. Wood is fine if it is coated. My personal preference is plastic.
5. Floor space. Balls are terrestial snakes.

Ball Pythons are GREAT snakes to have!

First of all Ball Pythons SHOULD NEVER be housed together. It will only cause the snakes to stress out and to also compete for everything that you have in their tank.

Males tend to stay smaller then females. Some females have been known to get up to 6 feet long, but 5 feet is more "normal" while males normally hit around the 4 foot mark.

A grown adult can live in a 30/40gallon tank.
Also they aren't the biggest climbers, so more floor space is better for them.

Wood is not easy to clean, so I'd say go with glass or a plastic tub.

well there are plenty out there! Do you have a particular price range?

While I do love a lot of the morphs out there I have to say that normals still enchant me the most. There is such a wide variation of patterns they can have as well as colors that I don't think I'll ever get tired of them.

Price range would be up to around £500 to start as im sure this will not be my last ball python.That's not including the set up.
I have just found a glass viv i used for my corns.Its 16" wide x 9" deep x 11" high.Would this be ok for a hatchling or would a 24" x 15" x 15" that i currently use for my corns be better as this would last him longer then move him up to a 36" x 15" x 15" when he gets bigger.
