    Taking so long to shed.
So Jaws is shedding, well Jaws has been shedding now for almost a week!
With the other 5 I check them one morning and it seems like there already done shedding before I even noticed they were blue.
But with Jaws, he seems to be having a hard time with it, I soaked him one day...then did the moist paper towels over the uth another day, it's just coming off in patches and I was wondering if any of you have any tried and true tips for helping him on his way.
Oh, he is also in a small rack...4.5 QT tub....I've been on top of his temps and humidity...I even take him out and mist it ever so often to get it a little higher for the poor little thing.

Any who thanks so much for any advice.

Have you tried rolling the shed off yourself after a soak? I have done that once when I couldn't get a grip on my humidity. I have also heard of people putting the snake in a moist pillow case after a good soak

Its best if you spray him a little then remove a patch, then spray and remove some more.I do this if any of my snakes have a problem getting some of the shed off themselves.Definitly make sure you do not leave any old shed on the tip of his tail.I have seen some snakes lose the end of there tails because of the old shed constricting that area.

How long did you soak for? I'd give soaking another try for 45 mins - 1 hour.

I use the sauna method when my snakes seem to be having a hard time sheding.

Basically, you take a container big enough for the snake, place paper towels on the bottom, and cover them with a thin layer of warm water. Then you place the snake inside and put the cover on (make sure you have air holes), and place it on a heating pad. Never leave the snake alone. Typically within 2 hours the shed has raised and it comes off smoothy. For my Pip his first shed was retained, and I did this method and found it easy to pull off the stuff he didn't get.

The wet pillow case seems like a good idea, because it gives them something to rub against too. We usually soak ours in a cooler for a few mins then it peels right off, or a deli cup or gladware bowl with our small ones.

i use the bucket with a small amount of water in it (so they can easily have their head outside the water) and i put their plastic plants in with them, so they have something to rub against. i place the bucket on a heating pad and leave them for 30 minutes - take them out in a towel and let them move thru the towel... check for any retained shed and if so... i put them back into the bucket for another half an hour.

When I let him sit in the sauna..I set the timer for an hour, some of the shed did come off but not all, checked him today and he still has it on him.

Joe, spraying him with warm water wont tick him off? He's already the smallest yet most aggresive bp we have :O

How long do I have between each shed? The question is, how fast should I be attempting to get it off.

    Thanks everyone :sunny:

you want to remove it right away. with our 'difficult' shedder... i'd spend the day with him in and out of the bucket until i got it all off.
