We're in the process of building a new house and today I saw something that shocked me. We drive by before school and the garage is wide open. No big deal? Someone had kicked in the basement door, covered all the windows and raided the place. They only took off with $2,000 in carpet, a new flatscreed Plama T.V. and a washer and drier. The new garage floor was covered in oil from their leaking truck. I had to leave for school before the police got there. It was cold so I woulf think they were wearing gloves. The alarm was suposed to be finished and armed today. Lets hope everything gets covered with insurance. Not to mention the construction insurance was only in effect until 9 AM central time. We are suposed to move in this weekend too!!!

Thanks, the conviction rate for new construction thieves are very low so I doubt they will find anything. There were tire marks but I doubt they really do much

If you can prove that the crime took place before 9AM, the theft would probably be covered under you contractor's builders risk policy. Before you cough up the deductible for your homeowners insurance, I'd call the contractor's claims adjuster and get that ball rolling. Nag them enough and they'll pay....

Jake - so sorry that happened to you. I think what makes me angrier is the idiots that feel that they are somehow entitled to possessions that aren't theirs! Karl's SUV was broken into a couple years ago and his stereo stolen. My car tag was stolen off my car by someone in my building (on the back side) who drove the exact model car as mine and I caught it a month later when I saw the car drive by and went "I KNOW that tag!" It's infuriating!

Needless to say, in MY case with the tags, it was quite satisfying to see the cops surround his car to block it in, and then tow it, after searching it and finding 10 different aliases in his car.

why were all those items in the house already? normally you cannot start putting your own possessions in until ownership is transferred to you. once it's in your ownership, insurance begins immediately.

i'm so sorry to hear this happened to your family :(
