    help with reptitemp 500r thermostat
i can't seem to get this thing to work right..i now have the ambient temp where it needs to be...FINALLY...now the hot side keeps getting too hot! i woke up this morning 2am and seen the hot side temp was around 101 :rolleye2: !!!!!! is this because i have foil on top of the screen lid? it bothers me, i know MOST snakes are smart enough to go where they are comfortable and mine does move as it wants but i want to keep the temps steady and not stress my snake.

what should i do? get a different thermostat or take foil off of hot side? then i'm scared the ambeint temps will drop too low again. i'm between a rock and a hard place, i'd like to get a thremostat the has numbers and will cool and heat, but only ones i seen are 240v and over seas...
here's a pic of the thermostat....

Unfortunately, your snake may not realize the temp is too hot and may get burned. First off, where do you have the thermostat probe secured? What type of heating element are you using? Why are you using foil on the screen lid?

Dan,if the hot side is getting to hot then adjust that stats settings to lower the temp. Now like Jamie is asking what are you using to supply the heat source? If its a UTH then the probe from the stat needs to be in the middle of the UTH inside the enclosure.I use some duct tape to hold the probe in place.

ok it's by the hot sid ebut not secured to the actual glass, i will do that today and also stick the probe for temp to glass also....will let you knwo how it turns out...i'm using a UTH....i have foil to keep the humidity up to 50-60% i'm gonna do these and take the hto side foil off first then go from there.

Re: help with reptitemp 500r thermostat
well got the temps good, had to cover cool side and use foil to filter out some of the heat lamp....and the themrostat keeps the temp on hot side betwen like 5deg...where should i set it 89-94 90-95 etc? i also have lost the humidity and have to keep misting the cage, is that just what i get for not having the other side covered...when i say loosing humidity i mean alot...like down to the 20's % ....
