breeding problems

so i have introduced my male lemon pastel to my normal female three times in the last week, the female s well over 1200 grams and this will be her thrird winter and the male is pushing 800 grams and this will be his second winter, i have been properly lower temps and they have not locked up or even really shown intrest is there anything else i can do or should i just continue till it happens

Three times in the last week? Try just leaving him in there for 48 hours after you first put him in... Then rest him for a while... then feed, let them both digest for 48 hours, and reintroduce them for another 48 hours...

Its a marathon, not a race... its October. :) You can and will get locks all the way up until March/April/May if you keep temps low enough. Don't worry... :)

thanks im just so freaking excited this will be my first breeding season, i also have a smaller female pastel and spider, if they get closer to over 1000 grams do you think i can try them in the later months aswell

make sure that female is at least at 1200 g if you really want to try. it would be best to wait til 1500 though from what most people say

can you get ball pythons to breed if you dont control the temperature?

if you just put a male and female together without lowering the temps or even if you do it at another time of year, can you still have some success with breeding?

ok well i just saw the breeding faq and it says that its possible.


has anyone here experienced this and had success??

I know Joepythons aka Joe does not cool his down but he does put them together at a certain time and has had success!

I can answer part of your questions.I do not change anything at all and this includes the temps being the same as the rest of the years settings.I have had success 2yrs in a row and just started my third season.My pastel has locked up with two females allready,as soon as he sheds he is going on another rotation.I leave him with a female for three days then seperate them and offer them food.After three days on his own i place him with the second female.I repeat this until they all show no interest in each other.

and im guessing you dont repeat feeding every three days right??

you feed still once a week?

so, for example, if i just decided today "hey let me throw my male pastel in with a female for three days and see what happens", would that be fine or would you do a little more planning than that?

Sorry i forgot that part.Depending if they ate during the last seperation i sometimes skip a offering.Now i have also reduced the size of the rat being offered at this time of the season.Everyone is offered a small rat during breeding season breaks,this includes my largest female thats 5lbs+.I record everything about each snake on index cards so i dont make any mistakes and inturn go crazy :rolleye2: .The reason for reducing the size of the rodent is you do not want to allow your male to get to FAT or bloated as it will distract his will to breed hormones.My females could care less about food during this party times,they do eat every now and then though.I hope this helps
