yay!! got a red tail boa! need some help though

ok i got a red tail boa today (baby) and the owners have a ball python in there with the babys. and i got a ball python too, at my house so i asked em if the two would get along and they said sure. so today i brought home the little guy and put him in with my ball python. the cage is plenty big enough its about 4' long and 2 1/2' wide with quite a few fake plants and two hiding places and a big water dish the baby rtb is a baby (so pretty small) and my ball pthon is still growing a bit longer but quite a bit thicker. so far they seem to get along the ball python is shedding right now so i hope theyll be fine but i was wondering if this would be ok for them to live and grow up together ill feed them weekly untill theyre older then feed about every two weeks :snake: but would this be ok plz help i need some info on this thanks :) :sunny: :oops: ps theve got a heat pad under the tank and a night and day lamp and all that too.

Rule number uno. Never house two snakes together in the same enclosure. They will get stressed and fight for dominance even though if it looks like they cuddling. Only time a snake is fine with another snake is for breeding time. Even then they are seperated I believe no more then 24 hours later. I always suggest if anyone ever gets an animal you should read up on then to give them proper care.

I hate to be rude but never house 2 snakes together...espically a boa and a python. For reasons stated in the previous thread and because of IBD (inclusion body disease). Here is a site to tell you a little more about the disease.

Not to mention cannibalism, spread of diseases (mites, parasites, respiratory infection, :blahblah: :blahblah: ). If one poos and it's smelly or runny, which one did it?


The RTB can live in the same temps and humidity, but can also tolerate a little cooler temps and drier environment. Put them in their own homes, with their own separate hides and water, and they'll be much, MUCH happier for it. :)

I think you got that mixed up. A boa can't tolerate lower temps than 80 cool side and 90 warm side without the chance of an RI. Balls can live in lower temps than boas with no ill effects other than a slowed metabalism

congrats on your new baby... now it's time to run to wallmart and pick up a nice sterilite container and set it up for you new rtb.

Hey Shocker, All the books from the experts say they should have thier own set up's. They need their own warm side and cool side with out the need to compete. Some were around this site their is a story of a rtb eating a ball. I read it and saw the pics. And it was a regarge. It was sick dude.

That 4 foot by 2 foot cage will blown out just by the rtb in a little over a year. You might as well buy another for him/her now and get it done right, right off the bat. Good luck.

ok thx guys sorry about my ignorance i knew that the snakes needed thier own enclosure but the breeders said they would be fine together so i just went with it but yeah he's doin really good and ill get right on that setting him a new enclosure up ok. thx for the info!! once im able to get my dumb camera working ill try to get some pictures up but for now i cant :( thx!
