Clay Pot Hides in the Dishwasher...

hi guys

i use clay pots and clay bottoms as hides and i was wondering if anyone has tried putting them in the dishwasher to clean them...

right now i clean them one by one but i would love to be able to just put all my hides and water dishes in the dishwasher all at once and maybe save some time.

can they handle the water pressure and heat? this may be a dumb question but i have never tried this, so maybe someone can help out a little.

I don't use clay anything however I wouldn't recommend the dishwasher. Any soap residue coud seep into it as well as strange food scents.
I honestly wouldn't chance it.

clay is absorbent so it could absorb chemicals BUT


some ppl say to rinse out those with a little bleach and hot water, isn't that also harmful???


i used to just rinse mine out with hot water, soak in hot water, then rinse out again.

im just wondering whether the clay pots have the integrity to stand up to the heat and water.

will they crack or break?

if i end up doing this i wont use dishwahser soap, i was thinking of putting vinegar or noting at all instead of the soap. this way it wouldnt absorb chemicals.

has anyone here tried this? i guess i need to try it on a test pot...

I soak mine in a bleach solution, rinse as well as possible, then bake in the oven at 250 degrees for about a half hour. Chlorine evaporates rapidly, so most of it is gone by the time I take them out of the oven.

So far, I have had no problems with breakage due to heat and/or moisture.

i dont know if this has been answered somewhere else but i finally did it and it is okay to put clay pot hides and water bowls in the dishwasher.

i did it two times already with no problems. i put them on the top rack though just to be safe and they come out nice and clean.
