Not another Temp question!!!....
My very first, and yet to be named, normal baby ball arrived today from the Snake Keeper!!! Hooray!:carrot: :carrot: He was delayed one day and by the time he got to me he was well on his way to becoming a Snake-cicle. Poor thing. More to come on that I guess. Right now my temps are 90.9 & 78.1. Humidity is 57-58%. He checked out the warm hide, but he's been hangin' out on the cool side all day. Is the cool side temp too low? Should I get another UTH and thermostat to bump it up 2 degrees? I've been finagling with substrate thickness and flexwatt positioning, but 78 is about as warm as it gets on the other end. Although I think it's about 80 inside the cool hide....
:::::Trying VERY hard not to pick up the little cutie pie::::: One week, one week, just one little week!! :P
Re: Not another Temp question!!!....
He's in a 20 gal long tank, BTW... I modified the screen top and covered the back and sides w/ contact paper... Man, I love this forum. Thanks everyone!
Re: Not another Temp question!!!....
So I guess that means my temps are good and not to worry? Anybody? Look over there! It's David Hasselhoff!! Still nothing? ::::Waiting patiently::::
Re: Not another Temp question!!!....
If you can figure out a way, I would bump those cool end temps up a bit. (space heater or heating pad for cool side)
Can't wait to see some pics! :D
Re: Not another Temp question!!!....
Dang you beat me by seconds! I'm old so you have to be patient with me. I've got cavities older than some of our members. :sigh2: I think the trip to the dentist may have gotten to me a bit. ;)
Re: Not another Temp question!!!....
Thank you very much, Christie!:) Pictures to come in a week!
Re: Not another Temp question!!!....
Hey Rachel! I'm very glad to hear he arrived safe and sound!
I agree with Christie to do what you can to bump your overall temps another couple of degrees.
I have a theory as to why he may favor the cooler side of the tank for a little while, if he came out of the box really cold: Have you ever been really chilly right before climbing into a warm bath? Even though the water isn't overly hot, it FEELS that way because your body is cooler than normal. Now, I realize that's comparing warm-blooded creatures to cold-blooded creatures....but my point is that maybe its more comfortable for them to warm up gradually. If he came out of the box really cold, then the 78* side might already feel quite toasty.
That's my theory anyhow...based purely on late-night speculation that may or may not have any basis in fact or reality. :P

Incredible. As I was reading Rachel's post I was thinking the exact same thing! Same example, everything! I think being cold blooded may even make that "feeling" more noticeable, since they get ALL their heat from the environment?

Re: Not another Temp question!!!....
insulating 3 sides of the tank may help to bring the temps up a bit!
