no i don't see what good a microchip would serve to a snake...

microchips are great for dogs that run away and get picked up by a dog catcher...they just scan it return it to the owner...i've never had a snake run away :confuzd:

it is more for theft, i know clark is or has offered it on his animals for an extra fee, this way if your buddy or what not steals your snake and it is challanged you have a way of being 100% that is was yours or not. i don't really see a mojor purpose for the majority of snake owners but some that live in bad places may go with that option.

i see your point. but, IMO, it'd be money i'm not willing to pay. Pictures could always serve as a way to solve a dispute if your friend decides to make claim to the snake. He certainly won't have pictures of your snake that date months back.

However, in the event that they are stolen and you do not know who took them, if someone runs a scan over them then yes, they could find out who the true owner is. If i was running a milti million dollar snake business, and I am at risk for theft, then maybe i would consider it..but i'm a small timer right now and don't feel it's really necessary.

NERD's website offers microchipping for an extra $25...

    Re: Implant Chips
$25 sounds very reasonable. i dunno why i was thinking at least a hundred or so bucks....if we're talkin about a 5,000 dollar snake then i'd spend the extra $25. Thanks for pointing that out :)

It might not that bad of an idea with the high dollar 100% hets. You can prove it if Bob Clark or NERD put 100% het pied on the chip.
