    Mites
So, i have been reading everyboyd's posts lately, and noticed that a lot of people have sceen/had deaths of snakes because of stuff that was supposed to kill mites, but actually killed their snake. My snake doesn't have mites, but for future reference, what is the safest way to get rid of mites?

    Thanks all!

The only thing i know of that will kill your snake instead of the mites is that homemade garbage from that pet store in Ohio.Everyone either uses provent-a-mite,or reptile relief.

I hear better things about provent a mite, but no stores here had it so i got reptile relief and i needed to do 2 treatments over 3 days plus soaking to get rid of it.

Wow they must have been really bad :( .When i used it way back then (my beginning) they were dead on contact and just a preventer i retreated 3 days later, never had to soak them also.

Provent a mite is good stuff. I've only ever had one outbreak of mites *knock on wood* and have had no issues in several years but I keep PAM on hand. Order it, you probably won't find it your local pet store.

Its good as a pre-treat and for new animals also but I believe it says specifically it is to be applied to the enclosure, substrate, and other items...and must be dry BEFORE putting your reptile back in. I could be slightly off just be sure to use as the label directs.

I stray from putting anything chemical on my animals if possible. Mites reproduce every 10 days so if you clean the cage every 7 and give your snake a nice warm wash it usually takes care of the problem But that is just my opinion. It has always worked for me.
