I breed and raise betta splendens. Here’s some of them, I don’t have good photos of them all…

Re: Bettas
Nice plakads! I really like your cambodian (persephone).

Re: Bettas
I like her too. ;3 I like the blue dusting. It's less of a wash and more of a dust look, and it's really nice IRL. Too bad she's got dropsy now. *Cries*
PKs and DTs are my fave tail type. ^^

Re: Bettas
Awesome betas!!
My g/f has been getting conflicting info about her male beta. One source says feed every other day, while the instructions on the food say feed several times daily...just curious how you do your feeding..?

Re: Bettas
I used to feed them twice a day, but they got fat. So once a day is good. Every other day would be fine too depending on her WC schedule and how big the tank is (which would coincide with how many calories he's burning). Like an active fish in a 10 gallon I’d feed a little more, a less active fish in a 1 gallon bowl, I’d feed less.
Also, my breeders get fed more to prepare them for spawning, young fish get fed more to encourage growth, skinny fish get fed more to put on weight.

Re: Bettas
Nice bettas. I gave up keeping them years ago, I was having problems with fin rot disease.

Re: Bettas
Awesome bettas. I'm just getting out of breeding them myself and giving away the last of my orange spawn. I have to admit I liked the plakats a LOT. Had one giant plakat too, gorgeous fish. Yours are superb individuals! Look forward to seeing more of them!

Re: Bettas
I bred bettas a bit as a hobby years ago. Great fish. Love your photos.

Re: Bettas
Schlyne, I've honestly considered giving them up too, because they have such short life spans. And they are rather prone to disease actually. But I can't, I love them too much. So I cut back. ;3
wolfy-hound, PKs are my fave, as you can see, that's almost all I own now. I've cut back on my spawns because I had some really bad luck with die off, but I just can't get out of it all together. I don't know how you managed!

Re: Bettas
Nice bettas
Bettas are cool....with several interesting genetic traits.....A good book on Bettas is
Bettas by Robert J. Goldstein published by Barron's (ISBN 0-7641-1653-3)...has a great section on betta genetics.
I've been thinking about designing an assignment for my students where they must pick a pet or organism with a couple of known simple genetic (Mendelian) traits. They have to do a powerpoint or poster on the inheritance of those traits and present it to the class.
Cornsnake, ball pythons, bettas, cats, dogs, what other critters do people think would be useful or fun to suggest?
