Re: Bedding for Rat Breeding
I tried it once.. it sucked. Instead of being somewhat absorbant... it gets really icky with rodents.
Try carefresh.
Re: Bedding for Rat Breeding
I have been using an animal bedding made from shedded up phone books lately, and I have been quite pleased with it. The reason I started using it was that the shavings I was using before had quite a bit of dust in it that would settle on everything, and clog up the window air conditioner in the rodent shed. I don't sneeze as much when I clean anymore, and it composts quicker than wood shavings. I don't know how much different this stuff is than shedded newspaper, but it is shredded up pretty fine.

Re: Bedding for Rat Breeding
I use shredded telephone books as a suppliment to my normal bedding. The rats adore playing in it and the females make quite nice nests with it for their litters plus it get to recycle the darn books that pile up. Newspaper I've used in a pinch but it isn't very absorbent at all. Make sure whatever you pick you avoid cedar or cedar mix beddings as they aren't recommended for rodents (or really any living creature).
