home humidity?

what are some "home made" style ways i can increase humidity?

are you using an aquarium, tub, plastic "vision" style cage?

Well... I am off to bed, but, if you are using an aquarium, and have problems with humidity, try getting another water bowl and placing it over the heat pad. I will put a damp towel over the top of their cage when they are in shed.

40gl aquarium, reptile carpet, screen, two hides on (cool/warm), water in the middle in a larger saucer with polished rocks (it helps him shed), small dish cloth (to burrow in, its his fav), and one of the large reptile red lamps (mostly on one side to keep diff in heat). what do you think?

i also live in nc which is VERY humid. so do i even need to add any or even little to his tank? i haven't had him long and do not yet have any thing to measure the humidity, nor do i have any thing for it. i haven't had any problems so far with shedding, constipation, ect. he has shed twice. please help i'm still learning and want the best for him!

Thunder Kat, pick yourself up a digital humidity & temp gauge. What's really popular is the Acu-Rite digital thermometer and hygrometer from Wal-mart. they're around 12 or 13 dollars right now, found in the home improvement section

Depending on your ambient humidity, you may or may not have to increase the humidity. I used to use a tank and struggled with humidity every day, and I would put a damp towel over the top of the screen.

Try the coconut fiber substrate. Its brown and comes in a brick like form.

I was using aspen in my 55gal and it was next to impossible to keep the humidity above 40% and after switching to the coconut stuff its RIGHT WHERE IT NEEDS TO BE!

This is cool. I would imagine that it would be an extra pain though- cleanup,mold....But its still pretty cool.

im going to waal mart this week end to get one, and i was thinking about the moss. im going to try the damp towl for a week or two. what is the proper % of humidity without risking mold or scale rott? and second question, can you put euquliptis (sorry i cant spell)? i need to redecorate he has out grown his hides and i got two more, but i have some old liptis lying around and was wondering if the was a way to sterilize it for some added camo.

50-60% is optimal. About "eucalyptus," I'm not sure... I know you can sterilize it, but I personally wouldn't put outside stuff in my tub..
