Breeding Questions:

I'm reading the breeding page fomr the site below and have a quesiton about it.

1. In October we lower our temps at night. The hot spot goes down to 82 F and the cool end is 72 F.

The documentation states that temps will be like this from October until about February 14th when they are raised again. 4-5 months with low end temps in the 70's. I'm just confused as to why this doesn't cause an RI... but it has many times for other balls at all time of the year. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

The temps go back up to normal temps during the day. the lower temps are done for 12 hours to simulate night and day during the cool season.

I dunno if that explains why it doesn't cause a RI, but that's all I can think of.

I think thats the reason too. As long as the temps don't stay at those temps 24/7 , you will be fine.

Ah ok that makes more sense... I believe an RI take over 24 hours of temps that low to develop an RI. I have a female who I believe is ready to breed. Now I don't have a male who is big enough to get the job done. But I think I'm going to start lowering temps at night and stop feeding her. Then around November 1st I will purchase an adult male and see If I can have a go at this breeding. If it doesn't go as planned I'll just wait until next season.

What i'm struggling with now is my ambient room temp is around 80. Normal tub temps are perfect (82-92). If i set a night drop to around 82 on the hot side, the cool side will remain at about 80.

Kyle, how do you intend on getting your temps below 75? I need help figuring that out.

Overall room temperature. It is always easier to drops temps as far as you can and work to raise to them as opposed to higher room temps and attemping to lower them. I could also add more holes to the tub and tape them up when I need to raise the temps back up. I also need to buy a foam cooler type object to build a incubator.

RI's are very common for many breeders during breeding season ... keep an eye on your snakes, especially if you have had RI's in the past. ;)

hey nate i know of a chondro/boa breeder in FL, they use a/c to cycle everyone down.
