Herp safe glue?
Hi all. I just bought a 70 gallong aquarium off my boss for my soon to be snakes (cheap, only $90 ;) ). And now I'm getting ready to modify it. I have a plan written up for an oak molded trim finish and door set. I'll be using two catches, one on the front and one on the back. They're similar to the ones you find on suitcases. The real question now is what glue can I use that's herp safe, and will bond wood to glass. The guys at McDiarmid said to use two step epoxy. I've worked with this stuff before and I know it dries rock hard. Is there any other suggestions? Any suggestions on my plan are welcome as well. :D

Re: Herp safe glue?
the epoxy sounds like your best bet just let it dry for a few days before putting the snakes in, the fumes can be pretty nasty for a little bit.

Thanks jc. . . do you think ge silicone is a good idea? I read it's really toxic, but has a strong hold. . . I also read it ruins the finish on wood. I know we use a brand of ge silicone at work for aquariums, but I'm not sure if it will hold, or wreak the wood.

Re: Herp safe glue?
What kind of snakes? Hopefully not Balls, or "A" Ball. And I also hope you weren't planning on housing any snakes together in that tank. I think a 70g anything would stress any Ball Python out, a 6ft boa, no, a 2ft Ball, definitely.
Sounds very interesting how you're going to put the door on, please take pictures if you can.
How were you going to heat something so big? Heating the air space alone is going to be an exercise in futility.

No, sorry, it's a divided 70 gallon. . . 35 each half. I used 1\4 inch opaqu plexiglass. Corn on one side, b python on the other. The plexiglass is being siliconed in place right now.

i think the epoxy will be best. i have not used much silicone but from my experience it will eventually pull off the glass. and take longer to air out.

K, they way it works is it's a 48"x18"x18" divided in two. on the top there is glass braces in place, so there is only a 18"x12" opening on both sides . . . the doors will be fully removable, and they are dual latched, front and back. I'm going to use a 11"x17" uth and place it halfway . . I will get pics while I'm doing it :D hope that helps.
