    Baja Cape Gopher pics (DUW)
My beloved little cape gophersnake, Caesar. He tolerates being handled like a consumate gentleman and never hisses or gets defensive. On very rare occassions, he may "rattle" his tail if he's feeling nervous or insecure. He's a real booger to take pictures of, though, because he never stops moving!

4+ foot of snake coiled into a tiny little coconut shell that is about 4" in diameter and 3" tall. :O

    Cute belly!

Even cuter face! (It's a bit blurry, but the best I could get of Mr. Wiggles. And that's not old shed on his head, but cobwebs from him trying to get into places he shouldn't be during our little photo-shoot.)

Showing off his colors in the sunshine...

    Thanks!

No, the gopher snake is in the Pituophus (bless you! :P ) family....which includes all gopher snakes, bullsnakes, and pine snakes.

Judy, I think you may have jumped the gun taxinomically speaking. ;) Pituophis is a genus, not a family. Colubridae is the family, and encompasses 1800+ extremely diverse species, and about 300 genera. Beautiful snake though!! I love my little hypo bull, he is all bark and no bite. He hisses if I look at him funny, but never strikes, I love the attitude!!

Hehe...my bad. I just meant "family" in the generic grouping sense. But you're right and every reminder helps to cement those slippery classifications in my mind.....or helps cement those classifications in my slippery mind.....depending on how generous one is feeling. :P ;)
