My new Blood Python

This is my first Blood Python. I had the manager at this store "The Snake Pit" order him for me and he came in this morning. CB male Python Brongersmai. He is 18" long. It is a coincidence that I have only male snakes :O . These photos are taken with a poor-quality digital camera that just hooks up to the computer with a USB cable. The brightness in the middle is not from the flash (not that it has a flash), but from a spot bulb I used overhead. I hope you enjoy !

Oh, alright. I'll borrow a good camera from a relative and snap some nice photos of him. I just want him to settle in for a week or two. He should go through his 2nd shed by then.

Smulkin - These photos that you posted in one of my older threads really helped. I just purchased the book "The Living Pythons" and it went over this same method of identification, as well as supraoculars (brongersmai having 2, curtus and breitensteini having one), but it doesn't seem right (going by supraoculars)

He has yet to even be defensive. He is a Sumatran Red and he has the color pictured.

a real beauty you got there BoidFinatic, very nice chunky little guy. Be nice to see more pics if you can borrow that camera (hint hint )lol

and dont believe the nasty tag they get either I have yet to meet a real nasty bad tempered one including my own and I have met a fair few, all good tempered beasts when handled with care ;)

Of course as babies they can be incredibly jumpy like many other snake species more so than some but IMO they are more docile as adults on the whole than they are painted to be.

Kayla I wll have to politley dissagree Pal on the ranking of 2nd most bad tempered snake species :colbert: I must get on my Blood Python soap box ..lol what makes you say that if you dont mind me asking ?

I have had Ball Pythons with more attitude than my bloods , I really think they get a far worse rap than they deserve. I have encountered nasty Retics , Burmese , Balls , Boa's , Rat Snakes , and GTP,s a plenty but only ever encountered 1 bad tempered Blood and that was one that was rarely handled.

So not 2nd in my book by a long shot :) but that just my opinion others may be horrified with my comments if they have had really bad experiences :D

If fellow blood owners have some horror stories to back up the bad tempered tag they have I would be interested to hear about them :) as so far in the years I have worked with snakes and bloods in particular I have yet to see this.

A few weeks ago I held a hatchling blood at an expo in PA. It bit me 4 times in less than a minute without a motive. It would have its head resting on the back of my hand and then it would just sink its teeth in :O . One thing though....it was WC. I didn't buy that blood, not because he bit me, but because I don't support the whole WC thing.

My new blood is so gentle. Yesterday, I waved my hand in front of him repeatedly to see if he would be defensive and he just continued to smell the air :D .
