    NOT a good day... mites.
Not again! Mites have reared their ugly heads in my household. What a crappy day off; two sets of people who were supposed to come over, aren't; and I was actually feeling sociable for once, and cleaned the house good.. It's pouring rain out. And now.. I go to clean out Apache's cage.. mites.
I am so sick of this crapola. I was using the Reptile Relief, as it was the only thing at my friend's store a few months back.Well, I am buying Prevent-a-Mite online somewhere as soon as I post this.. just a vent. I am so sick of this.. but I am getting this treated ASAP. I did what I could for now; stripped down the cages, used paper towels as substrate (I was doing that anyway.) Any other tips? I was thinking of soaking everyone, but should I just wait until I get the PAM so I can do it right?

:rage: :stupidme: :dead: :frustrate :sniff: :tears: :worry: :heartbrea :stab: :eyepoppin

Jen,is it possible that you missed treating a area? When i had mites i used the reptile relief and they were gone.Do you treat the whole cage inside and out? I would treat them with what you have as a temporarily break from them is better on the snakes.Good luck

You can let the snakes soak until you get the can, so that they can relieve themselves a bit before you re-introduce them into their cages. If you place a snake back into a treated cage, then the remaining mites and eggs on the snake will perish as well.

After 2 days or so, you won't see any more critters.

I have used Reptile Relief, but it is only temporary relief.

Does anyone have any links to pictures of mite infestation? I was just wondering. I've been keeping my eyes peeled for them but so far so good.
I am guessing there similiar to mites found on cats and dogs yes? Dont they usually come from rats/mice?

    Thanks

They aren't similar to dog ticks or fleas. Fleas jump a lot and they never stop moving. Snake mites are round and they 'walk' around on the snake. Snake mites are specific to snakes and not rats. In fact, snake mites don't bother lizards and vice versa. Mites are usually specific to a certain scale, skin, fur type which is why snake mites only live in the scales of snakes.
