Boa Breeding/Morph questions

Hello everyone...I have a beautiful normal colombian boa named Rosie, she has a beautiful light cream color, bright red tail, thin saddles and nice diamond shaped patterns on her sides with some really nice pink on her sides when shes in dark phase. I think she would produce some goregeous babies if paired up with the right male. In a couple of years i would really like to breed her, ive been looking for males and found some really nice salmon and salmon pastels that i like.Im not looking to purchase any right now, Rosie is still pretty young. So all of this is awhile away, i just like thinking about it so i can make up some sort of plan and save the money that i will eventually need

My question is....supose i breed her with a salmon, salmon pastel, or 100% albino, what type of babies would i get...all hets or would i get any visible morphs ?

If You Put Her With A Salmon You Would Get 50% Salmons And 50% Normals. If You Put Her With A Albino You Would Get 100% Het For Albino.
If You Put Her With A 100%het Albino You Would Get A Hole Litter Or 50% Poss Het For Albino.

Hi Brandon, you should look at the characteristics of your female and analyze what would be a good project for her. Is she super clean, is she high contrast, does she have tons of underlying color, maybe a unique pattern, etc, etc. A very clean normal or Pastel with little color would not go well with an Albino, IMO. Most likely not much color will be passed to the Hets and ultimately passed to the Albinos her Hets create.

When working on Pastel Albinos for example you want to use Pastels with tons of underlying color, that color hopefully will be passed on to the Hets and on to the Albino babies. Again, it all depends on what you're trying to achieve.

The same applies for Salmons and Hypos. Chose a male that will go well with your females characteristics. Would a high contrast Salmon go well with her or a very light/clean Salmon or a colorful Hypo Pastel? Selective breeding is how you decide to improve or where you want a certain project to go.

Say you want to create colorful Albinos or Sunglows, you want to look for pieces of the puzzle that will add to what your trying to achieve. Whether it be a Coral'ish Sunglow or a High Contrast Sunglow or whatever your ultimate goal may be.

Don't just chose any morph or just any individual, but try choosing the right pairing for your specific project. Keep in mind that time spent during selection is not only reflected in the project litter itself, but also financially. It's the difference between Salmons that could take 4-6 months to sell for $200-$300 and Salmons that would fly off the racks at $600-$750, with deposits before their even ready to ship.

What if i were to buy a female salmon now and breed that salmon to a male salmon later on down the road....what would i produce ? all salmons im guessing...

Also, this is off the topic of boas, but a normal ball and a pastel ball bred together would make........

I'm gonna take a guess on the boas and say that you could get some normals, and some salmons which would be "possible super salmons."

As for the BP question, I know that one for sure. Normal x pastel should yield some normals and some pastels...but it's a roll of the dice and you may get all normals or all pastels. Each egg has a 50% chance of hatching a pastel.

Here are some guesstimates on %:

Salmon X Normal = 50% Salmons / 50% Normals

Salmon X Salmon = 50% Salmons / 25% Poss Supers / 25% Normals

Super X Normal = 100% Salmons

Super X Salmon = 100% Salmons / 50% Poss Supers

Super X Super = 100% Poss Supers

The two above links, if read and reread carefully, should give you everything you need to know about genetic traits, which is the first step to understanding what you are trying to figure out. Then you need to learn which traits for Boas or BPs are co-dom and which are recessive.

Boas:
Co-Dom traits:
pastel
salmon
hypo
jungle
motley

recessive traits:
anery
albino
squaretail
stripe

After this you will get into DH and Co-dom/recessives Double traits and triple hets and so forth.
