Tub temp...

Hi everybody,
I just set up a tub that is a 32qt for my 2 footer, with my undertank heat the top of the substrate on the warm side is 93 and the cool side is 77, what i am concerned with is that the plastic under the substrate is about 114. I am worried that he is gonna burn himself by moving the substrate. The substrate is recycled newspaper that holds the humidity great. Should i switch the substrate to shredded or chipped aspen?? or something else? and if chipped aspen where can i get it???

I would definitely turn down that thermostat. I would try to get the surface temp of the tub to be around 92-94 degrees. Don't worry about the temperature on top of the substrate, because the sanke is built to sense heat. If he knows there is 94 degree temps under the substrate, he'll move the substrate to get to it. At 114 degrees, as it is right now, you run a high risk of having a burnt snake.

Yes...do what Tim says. And also, you can take out excess substrate so that you just have a thin layer of it. They don't need a "cushion" under them, they just need enough to absorb wastes. A thick layer blocks the heat of the UTH. A thin layer makes it easier to warm the surface while keeping the UTH set at a safe level.

Also 77 for the cool side is to low. Anything under 80 degrees for a certain length of time will cause an respitory infection (RI) and need immediate vet attention.

Ok so... i will turn down the rehostat, but how will i warm up the cool side if 77 is too low? I also thought that the cool side being 75 is fine, at least thats what the Sutherlands say in their video.
Yea the snake isn't in the tub yet, i wanted to get everything up and rolling before putting the little guy in there.
